پچهيت pichhet S̱. (from پيچها) s. m. The back of a house: a yard or enclosure behind a house.

پيله pela P s. The ball or cocoon which the silk- worm forms round itself, the silkworm.

پنچ पंच panch S 1. adj. Five. 2. s. m. A council, an assembly, a meeting, a company. 3. Arbitrators. پنچ پلو पंचपल्लव panch pal- lav, The branches of five trees which are used in religious ceremonies. پنچ شاکها पंचशाखा panch-shākhā (Pers. پنج شاخه) see پنجه panja, sign. 2. پنچ پريا panch-piriyā, 1. Any person, Hindū or other, who worships the five pīrs or saints of the Musalmāns. 2. A cast of ḥalāl- ḵẖors. پنچ پاتر पंचपात्र panch-pātr, s. m. A kind of vessel used by Hindūs during worship.

پاٴي pāʼe P (Sans. पाद) s. m. The foot, the stand of a table, chair, &c. پاٴي بند pāʼe-band, 1. adj. Tied by the leg, fettered, captivated; (met.) encumbered with a family. 2. s. m. Fet- ters. پاٴي تخت pāʼe-taḵẖt, s. m. The royal residence or place of general residence of the royal family. پاٴي تراب pāʼe-turāb, s. m. The first stage of a journey. (It is usual to make one short stage at the commencement of a jour- ney, and then to wait a few days to collect every thing necessary). پاٴي حساب لانا pāʼe ḥisāb

پوج pūj पूज्य S̱. adj. To be worshipped, de- serving respect, venerable.

پٿوکا paṭūkā S̱. (पट्ट Cloth) s. m. See پٿکا paṭkā. پٿوکاباندهنا paṭūkā bāndhnā, To determine on, or to prepare for any act. پٿوکاپکڙنا paṭūkā pa- kaṛnā, To hinder or obstruct.

پٿا paṭṭā पट्ट S̱. s. m. A deed, particularly a title deed to land or a deed of lease. پٿّاتڙانا paṭṭā tuṛānā, To flee, run away.

پي pai P s. m. 1. (Sans. पाद) The foot. پي آنا pai ānā, To have a splint (a horse). پي کرنا pai karnā, To plague, to seize, to be importunate. 2. A nerve, tendon, sinew. 3. adv. Behind, after, following, therefore, in pur- suit, by reason, on account. پي به پي pai-ba- pai, or پي درپي pai-dar-pai, adv. One after another, successively.

پنتهي panth-ī पथिक S̱. s. m. 1. A traveller. 2. A sectary, a follower.
