شيطان shait̤ān A (from شطن Heb. To be disobedient or hostile) s. m. The devil, Satan. شيطان کي آنت shait̤ān kī ānt, The devilʼs guts, any thing very long and winding (as a lane). (Plur. شياطين). A.P. شيطاني shait̤ān-ī, adj. Devilish.

شيب shaib A s. m. Greyness, hoariness.

شخ shaḵẖ P s. Any thing hard, hard ground, top of a hill.

شتر shutur P (San. उष्ट़) s. m. A camel. شتربان shutur-bān, A camel-driver (or keeper). شتردل shutur-dil, adj. Timid. شتردلي shutur- dil-ī, s. f. Timidity. شتربي مہار shutur-i-be mahār, adj. Incorrigible, refractory. شترسوار shutur-sawār, Mounted on a camel, rider of a camel. شترغمزه shutur-g̠ẖamza, Wickedness, deceit. شترقطار shutur-ḳat̤ār, 1. A string of camels. 2. A series, line, row, &c. شترکينه shutur-kīna, adj. Bearing malice (the camel being remarkable for doing so). شترگام shutur- gām, A camel-step. شترگاؤ shutur-gāw, s. The camelopard. شترمرغ shutur-murg̠ẖ, s. m. An ostrich. شترنال shutur-nāl, s. f. A small gun carried on a camel.

شقيقه shaḳīḳa A (from شقّ) s. m. Temple of the head.

شاگردي shāgird-ī P s. f. Learning, studying, ap- prenticeship, pupilage.

شيرني shernī P. s. f. A lioness or tigress.

شکو shakau A (improp. shikwā) s. m. Com- plaint, upbraiding. شکوه مند shakwa-mand, adj. Full of complaint. شکوه ناکي shakwa-nāk-ī, s. f. Fulness of complaint.

شاکر shākir A (part. act. of شکر To give thanks; perhaps, from Heb. To hire, to pay wages or rent) adj. Grateful, praising, thankful.
