شکر shukr A (Heb. To hire, to pay rent) s. m. شمسي shams-ī A adj. Solar. شمسي قمري shams-ī ḳamar-ī, adj. (solar and lunar) 1. A perquisite taken by the officers of government, being the difference between the pay for a lunar and solar month. 2. A monthly period of three or four days, during which the female attendants in the womenʼs apartments have leave of absence.

شارک shārak P s. m. A species of nightingale, or a bird of a dark colour that talks like a par- rot, perhaps the mainā or starling. S. شاستر शास्त्र (r. शास govern, teach) shāstr, s. m. 1. An order or command. 2. Scripture, science, institutes of religion, law or letters, es- pecially considered as of divine origin or au- thority.

شافعي shāfi-īﻌ A n. prop. 1. One of the chiefs of the four principal sects of the Muhammadan religion. 2. adj. Following the sect of Shāfiīﻌ.

شبگير shab-gīr P 1. s. m. A cricket. 2. A nightingale, or any animal that sings at night. 3. A servant that works or travels in the night- time. 4. Early dawn. 5. Nightly march, nocturnal invasion. 6. part. Travelling by night (a caravan or traveller).
