شاهد shāhid A (Heb. Chald. from شہد Chald. To testify) 1. s. m. A witness. 2. (in Pers.) s. m. f. A sweetheart. 3. A female friend, a beloved object. شاهد حال shāhid-i-ḥāl, A witness of facts. شاهد روز shāhid-i-roz, s. m. The sun.

شکل shakl A s. f. Shape, form, figure, effigy, ap- pearance, semblance, mode. شکل نويس shakl- navīs, s. m. A portrait-painter. شکل مثالي shakl-i-mis̤āl-ī, s. f. A model, a pattern.

شہري shahr-ī P s. m. A citizen, or any thing be- longing to the city, a townsman.

شير sher P s. m. A tiger, a lion. شيرآبي sher- i-ābī, s. m. An alligator. شيرقالي sher-i-ḳālī, (the effigy of a tiger) A person only fit to be looked at, a braggart. شيرگردون sher-i-gardūn, s. m. 1. The sun. 2. The sign Leo. ¶ shīr, s. m. Milk. شيرخوار shīr-ḵẖẉār or شيرخواره shīr-ḵẖẉāra, A suckling, an infant. شيرخوارگي shīr-ḵẖẉāra-gī, s. f. Sucking, living on milk. شيرخورده shīr-ḵẖụrda, A suckling. شيردار shīr-dār, adj. Milch, giving much milk. شيرشکر shīr-shakar, 1. A kind of silk-cloth. 2. Affec- tion. شيرگرم shīr-garm, Milk-warm, lukewarm. شيرمال shīr-māl, s. f. Bread made with milk. شيرمست shīr-mast, A fine plump suckling, a fatling. شيرني shīr-i-nai, Juice of the sugar cane.

شست shast P s. f. 1. Aim. 2. A large fishing hook (not used in angling with the hand, but left attached to a strong line which is fastened to the shore). 3. The handle of a bow. 4. A thumbstal (used to defend the thumb in pulling the string of a bow). شست باندهنا shast bāndh- nā, To aim. شست جسته shast-justa, Shot from the bow (an arrow).

شلتاق shiltāḳ P s. Picking a quarrel with some one for a groundless cause, accusation, dispute.

شہچال shah-chāl P s. f. A term used at chess, when the king only can move.

شکر shakar P or shakkar (Arab. سکر) s. f. Sugar. شکرافشاني shakar-afshānī, s. f. Scattering of sugar. شکرخا shakar-ḵẖā, Chewing sugar. شکربهتا shakar-bhatā, s. m. A kind of sweetmeat made of rice, butter, and sugar. شکرخند sha- kar-ḵẖand, Smiling sweetly, speaking gently with a smile of love, charming, gracious, amiable. شکرريز shakar-rez, adj. Scattering sugar, mel- lifluous. شکرفروش shakar-farosh, A seller of sugar; (met.) a mistress. شکرگفتار shakar-guf- tār, adj. Speaking agreeably, eloquent. شکرلب shakar-lab, adj. Sugar-lipped.
