حذف ḥaẕf A s. m. Taking away, ejecting, cutting off a letter or syllable of a word, apo- cope, elision. حذف کرنا ḥaẕf-karnā, To omit, contract, reject, cut off or drop (a letter, &c.).

حوا ḥawwā A (Heb. , from حيّ Heb. To live; "because she was the mother of all living," Gen. iii. 20.) n. prop. Eve, the mother of mankind.

حاجت ḥājat A (from حاج Heb. Moved round, frequented, stood in need of) s. f. 1. Need, want, necessity, poverty. 2. Hope, wish. حاجت برآر ḥājat-bar-ār, Producing what is wanted or desired. حاجت رفع کرنا ḥājat rafﻌ karnā, 1. To relieve oneʼs neces- sities. 2. To go to the necessary. حاجت مند ḥājat-mand, adj. 1. Necessitous, indigent. 2. Hoping, depending. حاجت روا ḥājat-rawā, adj. Supplying or obtaining what is needed. حاجت رواٴي ḥajat-rawā-ī, s. f. The obtaining what is wanted or needed. (Plur. حاجات).

حساب ḥisāb A (from حسب) s. m. Computa- tion, calculation, reckoning, accounts, account. حساب پاک کرنا ḥisāb pāk karnā, To clear accounts. حساب پاک هونا ḥisāb pāk honā, To be cleared or settled (accounts). حساب دان ḥisāb-dān, s. m. An arithmetician. حساب رکهنا ḥisāb rakhnā, To keep account of, to register. حساب رفع کرنا ḥisāb rafﻌ karnā, To settle ac- counts. حساب کتاب ḥisāb kitāb, s. m. Ac- counts. حساب کرنا ḥisāb karnā, To calculate. حساب لينا ḥisab lenā, To take an account. حساب نويس ḥisāb nawīs, s. m. An accountant.

حربا ḥirbā A s. m. A chameleon.

حامي ḥāmī A (part. act. from حما or حمايت) s. m. A protector, a defender. حامي بهرنا ḥāmī bharnā, To believe, acknowledge, confess, allow, own, consent. Saudā says: نازبرادري کي حامي تب بهرون دل کي کمر دم دلا سادي بندها لون استقامت کي ليي Nāz-bardārī kī ḥāmī tab bharūṅ, dil kī kamar dam-dilāsā de bandhā lūṅ, istiḳāmat ke liye, I will then consent to endure her capricious airs, when by soft persuasion I have fortified my heart for perseverance.

حرث ḥars̤ A (Heb. ) s. m. Ploughing, cul- tivating, sowing; a ploughshare.

حراست ḥirāsat A (from حرس) s. f. Care, watching, guarding. حراست کرنا ḥirāsat karnā, To take care of, to govern, to guard.

حمايت ḥimāyat A (from حما) s. f. Protection, defence, guardianship, patronage, countenance. حمايت کرنا ḥimāyat karnā, To defend, protect, patronise, guard.
