حمار ḥimār A (Heb. , from حمر To be hot, to be red; because, says Bochart, asses in the east are of this colour: forsan potius a fervore libidinis in hoc animale. Vide Ezech. xxiii. 20.) s. m. An ass.

حوالي ḥawālī A s. f. Environs, outskirts, suburbs.

حيطه ḥīt̤a A s. m. A court, a place, an enclo- sure.

حب ḥabb A s. f. 1. A berry, grain of corn, fruit, &c. 2. (usually in Hind.) A pill. (Pl. حبوب ḥubūb).

حامي ḥāmī A (part. act. from حما or حمايت) s. m. A protector, a defender. حامي بهرنا ḥāmī bharnā, To believe, acknowledge, confess, allow, own, consent. Saudā says: نازبرادري کي حامي تب بهرون دل کي کمر دم دلا سادي بندها لون استقامت کي ليي Nāz-bardārī kī ḥāmī tab bharūṅ, dil kī kamar dam-dilāsā de bandhā lūṅ, istiḳāmat ke liye, I will then consent to endure her capricious airs, when by soft persuasion I have fortified my heart for perseverance.

حواله ḥawāla A s. m. Charge, custody, care, pos- session. حوالي ḥawāle, adv. In the charge, care, &c. حوالي کرنا ḥawāle karnā, To give in charge or possession, to commit, consign, in- trust, deliver.

حرمت ḥurmat A (from حرم) s. f. 1. Dignity, character. 2. Chastity, honour. 3. Reverence, esteem. حرمت توڙنا ḥurmat toṛnā, To disgrace. حرمت دينا ḥurmat denā, 1. To bestow ho- nour, exalt, dignify. 2. To lose oneʼs charac- ter, to incur disgrace. حرمت کرنا ḥurmat kar- nā, To treat respectfully, to honour. حرمت لينا ḥurmat lenā, 1. To violate, to ravish. 2. To disgrace.
