حبس ḥabs A (Heb. ) s. m. 1. Retention, imprisonment. 2. Prison. 3. A prisoner. 4. A bank, mound, dam. 5. A tank, pond, re- servoir. حبس البول ḥabsu-l-baul, s. m. A re- tention of urine, a strangury. حبس النفس ḥabsu-n-nafas, Suffocation. حبس دم ḥabs-i-dam, s. m. 1. Retaining the breath (which some fa- ḳirs do as a religious act for a very long time. This is esteemed a means of prolonging life, on the principle, that every man has a predestined number of inspirations to make, and the more slowly these are performed, the longer will be the period of his existence). 2. حلوا ḥalwā A (from حلو) s. m. A kind of sweet- meat made of flour, ghī and sugar. حلوا سوهن ḥalwā-sohan, s. m. Name of a sweatmeat. حلوا نکالنا ḥalwā nikālnā, To beat severely.

حباب ḥubāb A (or ḥabāb), s. m. A bubble. حباب اٿهنا ḥubāb uṭhnā, To bubble.

حاجب ḥājib A (from حجب q. v.) s. m. 1. A porter, a door-keeper, a chamberlain. 2. A curtain, a skreen. 3. The eyebrow.
