قبله ḳibla A s. m. 1. Any thing opposite. 2. That part to which people turn their face when at prayer; (hence, the word means) Mecca, an altar, temple; (and, by way of respectful address) Worship! Father! &c. قبلهٴحاجات ḳibla-i-ḥājāt, What is looked to for the attain- ment of necessities or desires. قبلهٴعالم ḳibla-e-āﻌlam, The ḳibla of the world, his Majesty, your Majesty! قبله کونين ḳibla-e-kaunain, The ḳibla of both worlds, applied to a father. قبله گاه ḳibla-gāh, The place turned to when at prayer, generally means a father or one beloved. قبله نما ḳibla-numā (lit. shewing the ḳibla or di- rection of Mecca) A marinerʼs compass, an in- strument to ascertain the direction of Mecca.
