صلابت ṣalābat A (from صلب) s. f. Firmness, hardness, severity, majesty, dignity.

صحرا ṣaḥrā A s. m. A desert, a plain. صحراگرد ṣaḥrā-gard, Wandering or travelling through deserts. صحرا نشين ṣaḥrā-nishīn, s. m. A her- mit, an inhabitant of the desert. صحرا نورد ṣaḥ- rā-naward, Wanderer of the desert. صحرا نوردي ṣaḥrā-naward-ī, s. f. Wandering in the desert or forest.

صمصام ṣamṣām A s. f. A sharp sword.

صبح ṣubḥ A s. f. Morning, dawn. صبح خيز ṣubḥ- ḵẖez or صبح خيزان ṣubḥ-ḵẖezān, adj. Rising early in the morning. صبح خيزا يا خيزيا ṣubḥ- ḵẖez-ā or -ḵẖez-iyā, A sort of thief who rises early in the morning and steals before people are awake. صبحدم ṣubḥ-dam, Dawn of day. صبح صادق ṣubḥ-i-ṣādiḳ, Dawn of day. صبح کاذب ṣubḥ-i-kāẕib, Just before daybreak. صبح گاه ṣubḥ- gāh, The morning time. صبح گاهان ṣubḥ-gāhān, The early dawn. صبح گاهي ṣubḥ-gāh-ī, Of the morn.

صناديد ṣanādīd A s. plur. (of صنديد) 1. Princes, chiefs. 2. Misfortunes, dangers.

صدبرگ ṣad-barg P s. m. Name of a flower. (Ro- sa glandulifera: Roxb.).

صباغ ṣabbāg̠ẖ A (part. act. of صبغ Heb. To stain or paint) s. m. A dier, one whose business is to die.

صراف ṣarrāf A (adj. superl. from صرف) s. m. A banker, a moneychanger.

صفہاني ṣifahān-ī P adj. Of Ispahan.

صفر ṣafar A or ṣafaru-l-muz̤affar, s. m. The se- cond month of the Muhammadan year. (On the 20th day of this month is held the festival of Sarotan, in commemoration of the junction of the head and body of Ḥusain. The 28th and the last days of this month are reckoned unfortunate; the former on account of Ḥasanʼs being poisoned by his wife; the latter because destructive vegetables are supposed to be pro- duced on that day). ¶ ṣifr, s. m. A cipher.
