صحيح ṣaḥiḥ A (from صحّ) adj. Accurate, just, pure, perfect, entire, sound, certain, authentick, cor- rect, genuine. صحيح کرنا ṣaḥīḥ karnā, 1. To sign. 2. to correct.

صم ṣumm A (from صمّ Ch. To contract, to ob- struct, to stop up) adj. Deaf. صمٌ بکم ṣummuṉ bukm, adj. Deaf and dumb.

صايب ṣāʼịb A (part. act. of صاب) adj. Right, going straight to the mark.

صرع ṣarﻌ A s. f. The epilepsy. A. صرف (Heb. To pour out for purification, to purify, to examine metals) ṣirf, adv. Purely,

صغار ṣig̠ẖār A plur. (of صغير from صغر Heb. To be small) Small. صغاروکبار ṣig̠ẖār o kibār, The small and great, the populace.

صورت ṣūrat A (from ii. of صار Heb. and Aram. To form, to fashion) s. f. 1. Form, figure, shape, face, countenance, fashion, appearance, probability, portrait. 2. Manner. 3. Condi- tion, state, case, circumstance. درصورت dar ṣūrat, or درصورتيکه dar-ṣūrate-ki, In case, provided that. صورت آشنا ṣūrat-āshnā, An ac- quaintance. صورت آشناٴي ṣūrat-āshnā-ī, s. f. Acquaintance. صورت پذير ṣūrat-paẕīr, Assuming or receiving form. صورت پذيرهونا ṣūrat- paẕīr honā, To come to pass, to come into exis- tence. صورت حال ṣūrat-i-ḥāl, s. f. A state- ment, form or state of condition or case, written declaration. صورت حرام ṣūrat-ḥarām, Plau- sible, whose appearance promises much more than events will justify, specious, superficial, fair without and foul within. صورت گر ṣūrat- gar, Painter, sculptor, limner.

صوري ṣūrī A adj. Exterior, external, apparent.

صلات ṣalāt A (from صلا Ch. and To pray) s. f. 1. Prayer, benediction. 2. The first chap- ter of the ḳurʼān.

صفر ṣafar A or ṣafaru-l-muz̤affar, s. m. The se- cond month of the Muhammadan year. (On the 20th day of this month is held the festival of Sarotan, in commemoration of the junction of the head and body of Ḥusain. The 28th and the last days of this month are reckoned unfortunate; the former on account of Ḥasanʼs being poisoned by his wife; the latter because destructive vegetables are supposed to be pro- duced on that day). ¶ ṣifr, s. m. A cipher.

صاحب ṣāḥib A (part. act. from صحبت) s. m. A lord, master, companion; (in compos.) pos- sessor, possessed of, endowed with, &c. (Plur. Arab. اصحاب or صحاب or in Pers. صاحبان). صاحب اختيار ṣāḥib-i-iḵẖtiyār, Possessed of free election, or option. صاحب اقبال ṣāḥib-iḳ- bāl, Fortunate, prosperous. صاحب تاج ṣāḥib- i-tāj, Possessed of the crown, a king. صاحب تخت ṣāḥib-i-taḵẖt, Possessor of the throne, a king. صاحب تمکنت ṣāḥib-i-tamkanat, Pos- sessed of dignity. صاحب جمال ṣāḥib-i-jamāl, adj. Beautiful. صاحب حال و قال ṣāḥib-i-ḥāl-o-ḳāl, Intelligent, polite, well-informed. صاحب خانه ṣāḥib-i-ḵẖāna, Master of the house. صاحب درد ṣāḥib-i-dard, Compassionate. صاحب دل ṣāḥib-dil, A pious man, a good man. صاحب زاده ṣāḥib-zāda, Genteelly born, a young gentle- man. صاحب سليقه ṣāḥib-salīka, Endowed with taste, a man of taste. صاحب طبع ṣāḥib-t̤abﻌ, Possessed of genius, a person of discernment, genius, or taste. صاحب طريقت ṣāḥib-i-t̤arī- ḳat, One of the way, or religion, or sect. صاحب غرض ṣaḥib-i-g̠ẖaraẓ, Designing, selfish.
