شفاف shaffāf A adj. (superl. from شفّ Chald. To extenuate, to polish) Transparent, clear, pellucid, very thin.

شلتاق shiltāḳ P s. Picking a quarrel with some one for a groundless cause, accusation, dispute.

شمع shamﻌ A s. f. 1. A lamp, a candle. 2. Wax. شمعدان shamﻌ-dān, s. m. A candlestick. شمع ساز shamﻌ-sāz, A chandler, a candle-maker. شمع رخ shamﻌ-ruḵẖ, Red-cheeked. شمع رو shamﻌ-rū, Having a countenance resplendent as the candle. A.P. شمعي رنگ sham-īﻌ rang, Flame-colour.

شہيد shahīd A (from شہد) s. A witness; a mar- tyr (any Muhammadan killed in battle is so called). adj. Killed. شہيدهونا shahīd honā, 1. To be killed. 2. To fall in love. (Pers. plur. شہيدان).

شقاوت shaḳāwat A (from شقا) s. f. Misery, dis- grace, poverty, villany.

شکم shikam P or shikm, s. m. The belly. شکم بنده shikam-banda, An epicure, glutton.

شاعري shāʼiﻌr-ī A s. f. The art or practice of poetry, poetry.
