شميم shamīm A s. f. Odour, smelling.

شوال shauwāl A s. m. The tenth month of the Muhammadan year; on the first day of which the festival of Bairām, or īﻌd is celebrated, being the first day after the musalmān Lent; and, on this day it is customary to make presents, &c.

Scattering sugar, mel- lifluous. شکرفروش shakar-farosh, A seller of sugar; (met.) a mistress. شکرگفتار shakar-guf- tār, adj. Speaking agreeably, eloquent. شکرلب shakar-lab, adj. Sugar-lipped.

شاکني शाकिनी shākinī S s. f. A female divi- nity of an inferiour character, attendant espe- cially on Siva and Durgā.

شيخوخت shaiḵẖūḵẖat A s. f. Old age.

شکوه shakwa A (improp. shikwā) s. m. Com- plaint, upbraiding. شکوه مند shakwa-mand, adj. Full of complaint. شکوه ناکي shakwa-nāk-ī, s. f. Fulness of complaint.

شگني shugun-ī P s. m. See شگونيا shugūn-iyā.

شاذ shāẕẕ A (part. act. from شذّ To remain alone or separate from others) adj. Uncommon, mi- raculous, wonderful; irregular or anomalous (in grammar), an exception. adv. Seldom.

شڐونشت षड्विंशति sh̤aḍvinshati S adj. Twenty six.

شمس shams A (Heb. and Chald. from To minister or serve; which the sun does in giving light to the universe: Buxt.) s. m. The sun.
