اوسر अवसर अव and r. सृ Go ausar S. or avasar, s. m. Occasion, opportunity, time, leisure.

اسپند ispand P s. m. A seed burnt at marriages to drive away evil spirits: it is, also, burnt as a charm for the like purpose some days after a child is born, particularly at the door; and when a child goes out or comes home. It is often mixed on those occasions with mustard seed, and hence has been confounded with the latter (خردل).

آهار आहार आ and r. हृ Take āhār S. vul- garly ahār, s. m. Aliment, food, victuals.

افگار afgār P adj. Wounded.

استره ustura P s. m. A razor. S̱. استري 1. istrī or istirī (for स्त्री) s. f. A woman or female in general; a wife. 2. istrī (r. स्तृ Spread out) s. A smoothing iron. استري کرنا istrī karnā, v. a. To iron or smooth with an iron.

اجر अजिर ajir S s. m. An area, court, yard.

اجیو a-jīʼo S̱. (अ and जीव Life) adj. Lifeless.

ابکیشي abkeshī S̱. (अवकेशी from अव and केश Hair; fruit) adj. Without fruit, barren (a tree).

احبا aḥibbā A s. plur. (of حبیب) Friends, lovers, beloved.

افطار ift̤ār A (inf. iv. of فطر) s. m. Breaking a fast. افطار کرنا ift̤ār karnā, To break oneʼs fast in the evening after fasting all day, as the Mu- salmāns do during the month of Ramaẓān.
