آس ās S̱. (आशा) s. f. Hope, desire, trust, reliance. (Affixed to other words آس signifies inclination, and آسا possessed of inclination; as پیاس piyās, Thirst, and پیاسا piyāsā, Thirsty, from پي pī, Drink).

انقباض inḳibāẓ A (inf. vii. of قبض) s. m. The being contracted; contraction, constipation.

ارغوان arg̠ẖawān P s. m. A plant whose flowers and fruit are of a beautiful red; a red colour.

آبکاري āb-kār-ī P s. f. The business of a water- carrier, &c., the business of a distiller, distillation, a duty levied on distilleries.

اشجار ashjār A s. plur. (of شجر) Trees.

امٿ a-miṭ S̱. (अ and मृष्ट Wiped, effaced, from r. मृज Cleanse) adj. Indelible, not defaced.

انتہا intihā A (inf. viii. of نہي) 1. s. f. Termi- nation, end, extremity, summit. 2. adj. Finish- ed, completed, prohibited.

اچین a-chain H adj. Uneasy, uncomfortable.

آدها ādhā अर्द्ध S̱. adj. Half. In compos. it becomes آده ādh or اده adh or ادها adhā or اد ad; as, آده جلا ādh-jalā, Half-burnt; ادهموا adh- mūā or ادموا ad-mūā, Half-dead.

ابوهریره abū huraira A (father of the cat, because he was in the habit of carrying a cat with him) n. prop. One of the companions of Muhammad.
