پتريا patariyā H or paturiyā, s. f. A prostitute. پترياباز patariyā-bāz, A whoremonger.

پان पान pān S s. m. 1. Drinking in general. 2. or pāṇi (for पाणि) The hand. 3. pān (for पर्ण) A leaf; betel leaf (leaves of Piper betel). پان اٿهانا pān uṭhānā or پان لينا pān lenā, To accept, to assent: see بيڙااٿهانا bīṛā uṭhānā, under بيڙا bīṛā. 4. pān, adj. in compos. (for پانچ pānch, q. v.) Five.

پڙهوانا paṛhwānā S̱. (caus. of پڙهنا) v. a. To cause to read or repeat, to teach to read.

پونچنا ponchnā H v. a. See پونچهنا ponchhnā.

پنچورا panchorā H s. m. An earthen vessel with a narrow neck and a hole in the bottom. When filled with water and the mouth stopped, no water flows from the hole below till the hand or whatever stopped the mouth be removed. (It is used as an experiment to illustrate the doc- trine of the horror vacui by the followers of Aristotle).

پراس parās पलाश S̱. s. m. 1. The name of a tree (Butea frondosa). 2. Oakum made of the bark of that tree.

پهرت phurt S̱. or phurti (स्फूर्त्ति) s. f. Activity, quickness, alertness.
