هٿانا haṭānā H (causal of هٿنا) v. a. To repel, drive backwards, to back, to worst, to foil.

هوا hawā A (from هوي Heb. and Aram. and ) s. f. 1. Lust, desire. 2. Love, affection. 3. Wind, air, atmosphere. هوا باندهکرجانا hawā bāndhkar jānā, To beat to windward. هوا بتانا hawā batānā, To reject oneʼs petition, to disap- point. هوا بندهنا hawā bandhnā, To appear. هوا بندي کرنا hawā-bandī karnā, 1. Good-will, friendship. هوا حرص hawā-ḥirṣ, Covetousness, envy, greediness. هوا دار hawā-dār, 1. adj. Airy. 2. s. A lover. هوا داري hawā-dār-ī, s. f. Airiness. هوا دينا hawā-denā, To blow the coal, to foment a quarrel. هوا زدگي hawā-zada-gī, A disease so called, cold, catarrh. هوا سي بات کرنا hawā se bāt karnā, to rival the wind in speed. هوا سي لڙنا hawā se laṛnā (to quarrel with the wind) Implies a readiness to quarrel. هوا کرنا hawā karnā, 1. To fan. 2. To broach, to divulge, to disclose, to publish. هوا کهانا hawā khānā, 1. To take the air. 2. To walk about idly. هوا کي ببولي پهوڙنا hawā ke babūle phoṛnā. To build castles in the air. هوا گير hawā-gīr, A rocket- maker. هوا وهوس hawā-o-hawas, Lust, concu- piscence, sensuality, luxury, vanity, ambition. هوا هو جانا hawā ho jānā, To scamper off, to vanish, to disappear.

هلال hilāl A (from هلّ Heb. and Aram. ) s. m. The new moon, the first and last two or three days of the moon. هلال دور hilāl-daur, A kind of bow.

هفتش haftish H s. (dakh.) Altercation, arguing. هفتش کرنا haftish karnā, To argue, to altercate (Harris).

هر हर har S n. prop. A name of Mahādeva. ¶ हरि hari, A name of Vish̤ṇu: see هري harī. هربهجن hari-bhajan, Adoration of Vish̤ṇu. هربهکت hari-bhakt, A Vaish̤ṇava, worshipper of Vish̤ṇu. هرپيڙ hari-paiṛi, s. f. A ghāṭ or landing place dedicated to Hari (lit. the steps or stairs of Hari). هرداس hari-dās, Servant of Vish̤ṇu.

هنجار hanjār P s. m. 1. A straight road, a true method. ناهنجار nā-hanjār, adj. Stray, wicked, unfortunate, rude, unpolite. 2. A masonʼs rule, a plumb-line, a level, &c. A. P. هند hind, s. m. India, an Indian.

هکارنا hakārnā H v. a. To drive oxen or other cattle in a circle as when treading out grain.

هاروت hārūt A n. prop. The name of an angel, who, together with another named ماروت mā- rūt, severely censured mankind before the throne of God: they were, therefore, both sent down
