نوروز nau roz P s. m. New yearʼs day according to the Persian calendar; being that on which the sun enters Aries. This is called عامه or general: and, the sixth of the same month is called خاصه or particular. Both are celebrated by feasts, the liberation of prisoners, &c.

نہان nihān P adj. Latent, hid, concealed, clan- destine.

نيلم nīlam S̱. (नीलमणि) s. m. A gem of a blue colour, a sapphire.

نقيض naḳīẓ A (from نقض analog. to Chald. ) 1. adj. Adverse, contrary, opposite. 2. s. m. An enemy.

ناٿهـ nāṭh नास्ति S̱. s. m. Nonexistence.

نجات najāt A s. f. Freedom, liberation, deli- verance, salvation, escape, pardon, absolution, flight.

نگندا nigandā S̱. s. m. (see نگندنا) Quilting.

نصاريٰ naṣārạ̄ A (Heb. from Nazareth, the name of a city, so called from its abounding in orchards, from a twig or branch) s. m. A Nazarene, a christian.

نستوک nistok निस्तुक S̱. s. m. Definitive set- tlement, decision, decree, adjustment.

نس निश् nis S (or nisi), s. f. Night. نسچر nis-char, s. m. A prowler: see نساچر beneath. نسچراٴي nis- char-āʼī, s. f. Prowling. نسچراٴي کرنا nis-char-āʼī karnā, To prowl. نساچر निशाचर nisā-char, 1. A demon. 2. A robber, a thief. 3. A noc- turnal animal, an animal that watches and feeds by night. نساکر يا نساناتهـ निशाचर nisā-kar, or निशानाथ nisā-nāth, The moon.
