قانون ḳānūn G. (Gr. kanwn) s. m. 1. Rule, regula- tion, statute, canon, institute, system. 2. A dulcimer, or harp. قانونگو ḳānūn-go, s. m. An officer in each district, acquainted with its cus- toms, the nature of the tenures of the land, &c. قانونگوٴي ḳānūn-go-ī, s. f. The office of a ḳā- nūn-go, q. v.

قضيب ḳaẓīb A (from قضب Heb. To cut off, to beat with a rod) s. m. 1. A rod, a long slender branch. 2. A small sword. 3. Penis.

قرابت ḳarābat A (from قرب) s. f. Kin, vicinity, relationship, affinity, propinquity, alliance.

قوانين ḳawānīn A s. m. plur. (of قانون ḳānūn) Rules, ordinances, statutes, &c.

قوس ḳaus A 1. s. f. A bow; the arc of a circle. 2. s. m. The sign of the archer, Sagittarius. قوس قزح ḳaus-i-ḳuzaḥ, s. f. The rainbow. (dual, قوسين ḳausain, Two bows). T.P. قوش خانه ḳush-ḵẖāna (Turkish قوش A bird) s. m. An aviary.

قيد ḳaid A s. f. 1. A fetter, imprisonment, bond, bondage. 2. An obligation, compact. 3. An obstacle. قيد خانه ḳaid-ḵẖāna, s. m. A prison. قيد رهنا ḳaid rahnā, To remain in bonds, in pri- son, &c. قيد کرنا ḳaid karnā, To imprison, bind, fetter, captivate. قيد هونا ḳaid honā, To be imprisoned, bound, or fettered, &c.

قمر ḳamar A s. m. The moon.

قمقمه ḳumḳuma A (from قمقم To collect, to hold, to be plunged in water) 1. A jug, a pitcher; (hence, in Hind.) a vessel in which the red mixture is contained with which they play at the holī. 2. A round shade or lantern.

قطب ḳut̤b A s. m. 1. The iron spindle or axis on which a millstone turns. 2. The polar star, the north pole. قطب جنوبي ḳut̤b-i-janūb-ī,

قايزه کرنا ḳāʼịza karnā A. S̱. v. a. To tie up a horseʼs head by passing the bridle to his tail, to prevent his biting, &c. while rubbing down.
