قرات ḳirʼat A (from قرأ Heb. To read) s. f. Pronunciation, reading.

قاب ḳāb A (Heb. ) 1. s. f. A large dish used for serving rice, &c. in at a meal, or for kneading dough in, &c. 2. s. m. The distance be- tween the part where a bow is grasped by the hand and its extremities. قاب قوسين ḳāb-ḳau- sain, The distance of two bows, or rather of two bows from the part grasped by the hand to the extremities.

قزل باشي ḳazal-bāshī T (comp. of t. قزل ḳizil, Red, and باش The head) s. m. A kind of Mug̠ẖal soldier. The ḳazal-bāshīs are consi- dered to be the descendants of the captives given to Shaikh Haidar by Tamerlane. They wore the red caps assumed by those captives as a mark of distinction, and are considered as the best troops of the Persian armies.

قله ḳulla A s. m. The top (of a head or other thing), summit (of a mountain).

قندهار ḳandhār H. (corrupt. of کهـنڐار) n. prop. Name of a country.

قنوت ḳunūt A (from قنت To be obedient to God) s. f. Devotion, piety.

قوي ḳawī A adj. Strong, solid, powerful, vigo- rous. قوي پي ḳawī-pai, Sinewy. قوي دل ḳawī-dīl, Strong in the heart or mind. قوي هيکل ḳawī-haikal, Robust, powerful in body, gigantick.

قراري ḳarār-ī A. adj. 1. Firm, stable. 2. Rati- fied, agreed to.

قتل ḳatl A (Heb. ) s. m. Slaughter, killing, homicide, murder, assassination. قتل عام ḳatl-i-āﻌmm, A general massacre. قتل کرنا ḳatl karnā, To kill, to murder, execute. قتل گاه يا گـﮩ‍ہ ḳatl- gāh or -gah, Place of murder. قنل هونا ḳatl- honā, To be killed.

قلم ḳalam A s. m. (by Hindūs s. f. Sans. कलम Gr. ka/lamos) 1. A reed. 2. A pen. 3. A mode of writing characters, handwriting. 4. s. f. Cuttings of trees, &c. for planting, a set, a slip. 5. A kind of firework. قلم انداز ḳalam- andāz, Throwing away the pen. قلم بند کرنا ḳalam band karnā, To take down, to write. قلم بندي ḳalam-band-ī, s. f. Signature, signing an agreement. قلم تراش ḳalam-tarāsh, s. f. A penknife. قلم جاري هونا ḳalam jārī honā, Le- vying of forces. قلمدان ḳalam-dām, s. m. An inkstand. قلمرو ḳalam-rau, s. m. Empire, sove- reignty, jurisdiction. قلم کار ḳalam-kār, An en- graver. قلم کاري ḳalam-kār-ī, s. f. Engraving. قلم کرنا ḳalam karnā, To cut. قلم کشي ḳalam- kash-ī, s. f. Writing. قلم لگانا ḳalam lagānā, To plant slips or cuttings.
