قدم ḳadam A (Heb. and Ch. To go before) s. m. 1. A pace, a step, a footstep. 2. The foot, the sole of the foot. 3. The going before, merit. قدم باز ḳadam-bāz, Fleet. قدم بقدم ḳadam-ba-ḳadam, Step by step, gently, by de- grees. قدم بوس ḳadam-bos, 1. adj. قلم ḳalam A s. m. (by Hindūs s. f. Sans. कलम Gr. ka/lamos) 1. A reed. 2. A pen. 3. A mode of writing characters, handwriting. 4. s. f. Cuttings of trees, &c. for planting, a set, a slip. 5. A kind of firework. قلم انداز ḳalam- andāz, Throwing away the pen. قلم بند کرنا ḳalam band karnā, To take down, to write. قلم بندي ḳalam-band-ī, s. f. Signature, signing an agreement. قلم تراش ḳalam-tarāsh, s. f. A penknife. قلم جاري هونا ḳalam jārī honā, Le- vying of forces. قلمدان ḳalam-dām, s. m. An inkstand. قلمرو ḳalam-rau, s. m. قبله ḳibla A s. m. 1. Any thing opposite. 2. That part to which people turn their face when at prayer; (hence, the word means) Mecca, an altar, temple; (and, by way of respectful address) Worship! Father! &c. قبلهٴحاجات ḳibla-i-ḥājāt, What is looked to for the attain- ment of necessities or desires. قبلهٴعالم ḳibla-e-āﻌlam, The ḳibla of the world, his Majesty, your Majesty! قبله کونين ḳibla-e-kaunain, The ḳibla of both worlds, applied to a father. قبله گاه ḳibla-gāh, The place turned to when at prayer, generally means a father or one beloved. قبله نما ḳibla-numā (lit. shewing the ḳibla or di- rection of Mecca) A marinerʼs compass, an in- strument to ascertain the direction of Mecca.
