فاتحه fātiḥa A (from فتح) 1. s. m. Commence- ment, exordium. 2. s. f. The first chapter or سوره of the ḳurʼān, which being repeated when praying for the souls of the dead, the word comes to mean prayers offered up in the name of saints, &c. and vulgarly oblations made to saints, &c.

فطر fat̤r A (Heb. and Chald. To break, to split) s. m. Splitting, creating, commencing. ¶ fit̤r, Breaking a fast; the festival held on breaking Lent, which is also called عيد الفطر.

فنون funūn A s. plur. (of فن) Sciences, arts.

فرني firnī P s. f. A dish resembling hasty pud- ding, ground rice and milk.

فرزي farzī P s. f. The queen at chess. فرزين بند farzīn-band, s. m. A term used at chess.

فاطمه fāt̤ima A s. f. Name of Muhammadʼs daughter and wife of Ali.

فيلپاٴي fīl-pā-ī P. s. f. Elephantiasis.

فلان fulān A (vulg. falān, Heb. from To lie hid) adj. Such a one or thing. ¶ falān or فلاني falānī, s. f. (met.) Pudendum muliebre.

فوته fota P. s. m. See فوطه fot̤a.

فتقا fatḳā A adj. f. Patentiore rima (mulier).
