صاد ṣād A s. f. The fourteenth letter of the Ara- bic alphabet.

صفا ṣafā A (from صفو Heb. To be clear, to shine) s. f. 1. Purity, cleanness, clearness. 2. Pleasure, content. 3. adj. (dakh.) Pure, clean. صفا صاف ṣafaṉ ṣāf (smack smooth) Without a trace or vestige.

صمد ṣamad A 1. s. m. Lord, master. 2. adj. Eternal, high; the eternal.

صاحب ṣāḥib A (part. act. from صحبت) s. m. A lord, master, companion; (in compos.) pos- sessor, possessed of, endowed with, &c. (Plur. Arab. اصحاب or صحاب or in Pers. صاحبان). صاحب اختيار ṣāḥib-i-iḵẖtiyār, Possessed of free election, or option. صاحب اقبال ṣāḥib-iḳ- bāl, Fortunate, prosperous. صاحب تاج ṣāḥib- i-tāj, Possessed of the crown, a king. صاحب تخت ṣāḥib-i-taḵẖt, Possessor of the throne, a king. صاحب تمکنت ṣāḥib-i-tamkanat, Pos- sessed of dignity. صاحب جمال ṣāḥib-i-jamāl, adj. صحرا ṣaḥrā A s. m. A desert, a plain. صحراگرد ṣaḥrā-gard, Wandering or travelling through deserts. صحرا نشين ṣaḥrā-nishīn, s. m. A her- mit, an inhabitant of the desert. صحرا نورد ṣaḥ- rā-naward, Wanderer of the desert. صحرا نوردي ṣaḥrā-naward-ī, s. f. Wandering in the desert or forest.

صغرا ṣug̠ẖarā A adj. plur. (of صغير) Small, infe- riours.

صفرا ṣafrā A s. f. Bile, gall, yellow.

صناع ṣunnāﻌ A s. plur. (of صانع ṣāniﻌ) Artificers, mechanicks, handicraftsmen. ¶ ṣannāﻌ, adj. Very skilful or expert in workmanship; a skilful artist.

صورت ṣūrat A (from ii. of صار Heb. and Aram. To form, to fashion) s. f. 1. Form, figure, shape, face, countenance, fashion, appearance, probability, portrait. 2. Manner. 3. Condi- tion, state, case, circumstance. درصورت dar ṣūrat, or درصورتيکه dar-ṣūrate-ki, In case, provided that. صورت آشنا ṣūrat-āshnā, An ac- quaintance. صورت آشناٴي ṣūrat-āshnā-ī, s. f. Acquaintance. صورت پذير ṣūrat-paẕīr, Assuming or receiving form. صورت پذيرهونا ṣūrat- paẕīr honā, To come to pass, to come into exis- tence. صورت حال ṣūrat-i-ḥāl, s. f. A state- ment, form or state of condition or case, written declaration. صورت حرام ṣūrat-ḥarām, Plau- sible, whose appearance promises much more than events will justify, specious, superficial, fair without and foul within. صورت گر ṣūrat- gar, Painter, sculptor, limner.
