شبد शब्द shabd S s. m. Sound, word, voice. See سبد sabd. شبد شاستر शब्दशास्त्र shabd- shāstr, Etymology, the science of grammatical inflection. شبد بيدهي shabd-bedhī (शब्दवेधी Piercing by sound) One who has the skill of shooting an arrow, &c. upon an unseen person, on hearing a sound made by him: (an arrow) that pierces by sound, or that hits what is merely heard.

شاخ shāḵẖ P (Sans. शाखा) s. f. 1. A bough, branch (of a tree). 2. A horn. شاخدار shāḵẖ-dār, adj. 1. Branchy. 2. شمس shams A (Heb. and Chald. from To minister or serve; which the sun does in giving light to the universe: Buxt.) s. m. The sun.

شايسته shāyista P or shāyasta, adj. Worthy, ho- nourable, suitable, proper, expedient, wellbred, polite. شايسته مزاج shāyasta-mizāj, adj. Affa- ble, mild, goodtempered.

شکفته shikufta P part. pass. (of شکفتن) Bloomed, blossomed: see شگفته shugufta.

شکست shikast P (from شکستن) 1. s. f. Breaking, fracture, deficiency, loss, defeat. 2. (for شکسته q. v.) adj. Broken, odd, uneven, unpaired. شکست خورده shikast-ḵẖụrda, adj. Broken off, interrupted, defeated.

شلوار shalwār P (or shilwār) s. m. Trousers.

شہود shuhūd A (from شہد) 1. s. The being pre- sent. 2. adj. Present. 3. s. plur. (of شاهد) Witnesses, evidences. ¶ shahūd, Friday, the day of the resurrection.

شہلا shahlā A adj. Having dark grey eyes with a shade of red.
