زير zīr P s. f. A fine soft sound, the smallest string of a lute, &c., the treble (in musick). P. S̱. زيرا (or زيره Sans. जीर or जीरक) zīrā, s. m. Cumin-seed. (Cuminum cyminum).

زاگ zāg P s. m. See a. زاج zāj.

زادي zādī P. f. part. pass. (from زادن) used in compos. Born; (sub- stantively) A son, a child; as, آدمي زاد ādmī-zād, A man, born of man; پري زاد parī-zād, Born of an angel or fairy, a beautiful woman; شـﮩزاده shah-zāda, A prince; شـﮩزادي shah-zādī, A princess. زاد بوم zād- būm, Native land, native place.

زري zar-ī P (from زر) s. f. Any thing woven with gold thread. زري باف zarī-bāf, A gold- lace worker.

زمين zamīn P s. f. The earth, ground, soil, land, floor, a region, country, the ground of a picture. زمين کاهونا zamīn kā honā (dakh. i. q. لاچارهونا) To be helpless or destitute (?). زمين بوس zamīn-bos honā, To make a profound bow. زمين پرسي کچهہ پڙاپانا zamīn par se kuchh paṛā pānā, To be overjoyed at finding unexpectedly the object of oneʼs wishes. زمين پکڙني zamīn pakaṛnī, To persevere obstinately in any de- sign, to insist. زمين گير zamīn-gīr, adj. Op- pressed or broken down by age or time, paralytick. زمين مين گڙجانا zamīn meṅ gaṛ jānā, To be greatly ashamed.

زحمت zaḥmat A (from زحم To press, as in a crowd) s. f. Disquietude, pain, affliction, sickness, trouble.

زغند zag̠ẖand P s. f. Jump, leap, spring, bound; sally, flight, levity. زغند مارنا zag̠ẖand mārnā, To bound, leap, spring, jump.

زکوات zakawāt A s. plur. (of زکاة) Alms.

زيبايش zebā-ịsh P s. f. Ornament, adorning, elegance.

زندقه zandaḳa A s. A bad religion, unbelief.
