حکايت ḥikāyat A (from حکو or حکي To nar- rate, Heb. The palate; speech) s. f. A history, romance, story, tale, narration.

حاشا ḥāshā A (from حشي or حاش) 1. adv. Be- sides. 2. or حاشا لله ḥāshā li-l-lāh, interj. God forbid, by no means. حاشاک ḥāshā-ka and حاشالک ḥāshā-li-ka, Far be it from thee. حاشاک الله ḥāshā-ka-l-lāh, God preserve thee from it.

حسن ḥasan A (from حسن ḥusn) 1. adj. Good, beautiful. 2. A proper name, a son of علي aﻌlī.

حب ḥabb A s. f. 1. A berry, grain of corn, fruit, &c. 2. (usually in Hind.) A pill. (Pl. حبوب ḥubūb).

حسن ḥusn A s. m. Beauty, elegance, goodness. حسن اختيار ḥusn-i-iḵẖtiyār, Free will. حسن خلق ḥusn-i-ḵẖulḳ, A good disposition. حسن ظن ḥusn-i-z̤ann, s. m. A good opinion, a favourable judgment.

حليم ḥalīm A (from حلم) adj. Mild, affable, cle- ment, unassuming, tractable. 2. A kind of food dressed in the Muḥarram.

حيز ḥaiyiz A (from حاز) s. m. 1. A place, part, a tract of ground. 2. A court-yard, an area.

حذف ḥaẕf A s. m. Taking away, ejecting, cutting off a letter or syllable of a word, apo- cope, elision. حذف کرنا ḥaẕf-karnā, To omit, contract, reject, cut off or drop (a letter, &c.).

حرف ḥarf A s. m. 1. A letter of the alphabet. 2. A particle (in grammar). 3. Inverting, changing, turning (as, a coat). 4. A crooked pen. 5. Writing diagonally. 6. A margin, side. 7. A word. 8. The summit of a moun- tain. 9. (in Hind.) Blame, censure, animad- version.
