حالات ḥālāt A s. f. plur. (of حالت) States, conditions, circumstances, cases.

حوزه ḥauza A (Heb. from حاز Heb. To collect, to accumulate, to possess) s. m. A tract, side, part, middle.

حمل ḥaml A s. m. 1. A burden, a load. حمل کرنا ḥaml karnā, To load, to impute, to accuse, to ascribe. 2. The fruit (of the womb), preg- nancy. 3. Fruit (of any kind). 4. ¶ ḥamal, Aries.

حاضر ḥāẓir A (part. act. of حضور) adj. Present, ready, at hand, willing, content; the second person (in grammar). Plur. Arab. حاضرين ḥāẓirīn, Pers. حاضران ḥāẓirān, The people pre- sent. حاضر باش ḥāẓir-bāsh (be ready) adj. Content, attendant. حاضر باشي ḥāẓir-bāsh-ī, s. f. Constant attendance. حاضر جواب ḥāẓir- jawāb, adj. Pert, answering wittily, smart. حاضر جوابي ḥāẓir-jawāb-ī, s. f. Repartee. حاضر رهنا ḥāẓir rahnā, To attend, to wait on. حاضر ضامن ḥāẓir-ẓāmin, s. m. Bail security for the appearance of another, a bondsman. حاضر ضامني ḥāẓir-ẓāmin-ī, s. f. 1. The act of giving bail for another. 2. A bail-bond. حاضر و ناظر ḥāẓir-o-nāz̤ir, adj. Present and seeing. حاضر هونا ḥāẓir honā, To be at hand, to be ready, to consent.

حدت ḥiddat A s. f. 1. The edge of a sword. 2. Keenness, acuteness, acrimony, passion, ve- hemence, impetuosity, poignancy, virulence.

حيات ḥayāt A (from حيّ) s. f. Life. حيات تازه ḥayāt-i-tāza, New life, regeneration (used to ex- press recovery from severe illness, the pleasure derived from meeting with a friend, &c.).

حرام ḥarām A (from حرم Heb. ) adj. Un- lawful, forbidden, prohibited, excluded, sacred, wrong. حرام رکهنا ḥarām rakhnā, To prohibit. حرام خور ḥarām-ḵẖor or حرام خوار ḥarām- khẉār, s. m. One who lives on the wages of iniquity. حرام زاده ḥarām-zāda, adj. 1. Illegiti- mate, base-born, bastard. 2. s. m. A wicked

حجاب ḥujjāb A s. plur. (of حاجب) Porters, door-keepers, &c. ¶ ḥajjāb, s. m. A cham- berlain, door-keeper.

حزين ḥazīn A (from حزن) adj. Sad, sorrowful, afflicted, melancholy, grieved.
