جٿايو जटायु jaṭāyu S n. prop. Name of a bird, mentioned in the story of Rāmachandra and Rāvaṇa.

جنتار jantār S̱. (from यंत्र) s. m. An amulet.

جک jak यक्ष S̱. s. m. 1. When treasure, &c. is buried, an animal (sometimes a man) is killed and buried with it as a guard. This animal is called jak, and receives orders to allow no one else to take up the treasure, &c. 2. (met.) A miser, called also جک کا گماشته jak kā gu- māshta. H.P. جکڙبند jakaṛ-band, adj. Tight.

جفت juft P s. m. Evenness, party, a pair, a couple, a match.

جبل jabal A s. m. A mountain, a hill.

جهيکهنا jhīkhnā H v. n. To grieve, to lament, to think of any thing with sorrow, to recommend any thing seriously.

جهنـﮩڐا jhin-haḍḍā S̱. (from क्षीण Thin, slight, and हड्ड Bone) adj. Rawboned.

جڙاٴي juṛāʼī S̱. (from جوڙنا q. v.) s. f. The price of joining, mending, &c. S̱. H. جڙپيڙ jaṛ-peṛ, s. f. Root and branch. جڙپيڙسي اکهاڙنا jaṛ-peṛ se ukhāṛnā, v. a. To extirpate.

جوراج juvarāj S (युवराज) s. m. A kingʼs son, the heir apparent, appointed to the empire.
