جبرايل jabrāʼīl A (Heb. ) The archangel Gabriel.

جهپلانا jhaplānā H v. a. To wash, to rinse.

جهين jhīn S̱. (perhaps, for क्षीण) adj. Fine, subtile, thin.

جاه jāh P s. f. Dignity, rank, grandeur. جاه و جلال jāh-o-jalāl, Dignity, grandeur, splendour, magnificence, pomp.

جوهر jauhar A (from Pers. گوهر) s. m. f. 1. A gem, jewel, pearl. 2. Skill, knowledge. 3. Matter, substance, essence (distinguished from accident). 4. Virtue, worth, merit. 5. Blackish marks in the steel of well tempered scimitars. 6. adj. Bright, glittering. جوهردار jauhar-dār, A sci- mitar marked with jauhar, q. v. جوهرکرنا jau- har karnā, To kill oneʼs self, to commit suicide. (When the Hindūs are attacked by a force too great for them to resist, they sometimes, in such cases, slaughter or burn their own wives and children, and then take to flight, or are them- selves slain; and, this act of killing their wives, &c. in such extremities, they call jūhar or jau- har).

جڙتا जडता jaṛatā S s. f. Immovableness, stiffness, rigidity, torpor, stupidity, apathy.

جهن jhan H s. m. The sound of platters or of any vessels of metal striking against one ano- ther, clash of arms (as, of swords, &c.).

جهانکنا jhānknā H v. a. To peep, to spy.

جلاها julāhā P. s. m. 1. A weaver, of the Mu- hammadan religion. 2. (met.) A fool, a blockhead. جلاه ڐاڙهي julāh-ḍāṛhī, s. f. A short round beard, such as julāhs usually wear.

جبا jubā S (युवा) adj. Young.
