جگالنا jugālnā H v. a. To chew the cud.

جواهر jawāhir A s. m. (plur. of جوهر but used in either number) 1. A jewel, gem, &c. (Plur. جواهرات). 2. Essences, substances. جواهرخانه jawāhir-ḵẖāna, Jewel-office. جواهرنگار jawāhir- nigār, Ornamented with jewels.

جوا jūʼā S̱. s. m. 1. (युग) A yoke. 2. (युग or द्यूत) Dice, gaming, playing with dice, &c. gambling. جوا کهيلنا jūʼā khelnā, To gamble. جوٴي خانه jūʼe-ḵẖāna, A gaming-house.

جرم jirm A s. m. 1. The body of any thing ina- nimate. 2. A globe. (Plur. اجرام ajrām). جرم قمر jirm-i-ḳamar, The body of the moon.

جيتيا jītiyā जीवत्पुत्रिका S̱. s. f. Name of a Hindū fast, with sacrifice to and worship of Devī (jītiyā-barat), observed by women, who have lost several children, to preserve the re- mainder.

جلا jilā A s. f. Splendour, lustre, brightness, scouring, polishing. جلاکار jilā-kār, A polisher. جلاوطن jilā-wat̤an, s. m. Emigration, leaving oneʼs country. جلاوطني jilā-wat̤an-ī, s. f. Ba- nishment, expulsion from oneʼs native land. جلاوطن کرنا jilā-wat̤an karnā, To abandon oneʼs country, to exile. جلاوطن هونا jilā-wat̤an honā, To emigrate or abandon oneʼs country, to be exiled.

جبرٴيل jabraʼīl A (Heb. ) The archangel Gabriel.

جراه jurrāh P. s. m. See جرا jurrā.

جري jarī A (from جرات jurʼat) adj. Valiant, in- trepid, brave, bold.
