جا jā P s. f. A place. جا بجا jā-ba-jā, adv. Every where. جانشين jā-nishīn, s. m. A lo- cum tenens, a deputy, a successor, a vicegerent. جانشيني jā-nishīn-ī, s. f. Sitting in the place; lieutenancy, succession.

جوالي jawālī S̱. (see s̱. جوالا) s. f. Mixed wheat. P. S̱. جوان jawān (Pers. jawān. Sans. युवन्) 1. adj. Young. 2. s. m. A youth, lad, man, adult; s. f. Young woman. جوان بخت jawān- baḵẖt, adj. Fortunate (person), one of blooming prospects. حوان پن يا پنا jawān-pan or -panā, s. m. Youth. جوان صالح jawān-i-ṣāliḥ, s. m. A fine youth. (Pers. plur. جوانان jawānān).

جهر jhar H s. f. 1. Heavy rain. 2. The heat from a fire. جهربرنا jhar barnā, To burn, to be all in flames.

جليا jaliyā S̱. (from जाल Net) s. m. A fisherman.

جاوان jāwāṅ यमज S̱. adj. Twins.

جعلي jaﻌl-ī A. adj. Counterfeit, forged.

جيتا jetā यावत् S̱. adj. As much as, so much. جيتاکه jetā ki, adv. Though, although.

جبين jabīn A s. f. The forehead. جبين سا jabīn- sā, or جبين فرسا jabīn-farsā, Rubbing the fore- head (on the ground in adoration). S. جپ जप (r. जप Pronounce inwardly) jap, s. m. Muttering of prayers, repeating inaudibly passages from the scriptures, charms or names of a deity, counting silently the beads of a rosary, &c. جپ تپ jap tap (जप and तपः) s. m. Devotion, adoration. جپمال يا مالا jap-māl or -mālā (जपमाला) s. f. A rosary.

جبـﮩ‍ه jabha A s. m. The forehead. جبـﮩ‍ه سا jabha- sā, Rubbing oneʼs forehead on the ground; be- seeching, begging earnestly. جبـﮩ‍ه ساٴي jabha- sā-ī, The act of rubbing the forehead on the ground, beseeching earnestly, &c.

جهلي jhillī H s. f. 1. A thin skin, a pellicle. 2. The membrane in which the fœtus is en- veloped (secundines). 3. The caul (omentum).
