جنلوک जनलोक jana-lok S s. m. One of the seven lokas or divisions of the world; the re- gion inhabited by pious men after their decease.

جهڙت jhaṛat H s. f. (dakh.) Discharge (of a vol- ley): see جهاڙن jhāṛan, or جهڙن jhaṛan. H.S̱. جهڙتي لينا jhaṛtī lenā, v. a. (dakh. i. q. محاسبه لينا) To take an account.

جنگل jangal S (जंगल) s. m. A forest, a wood. جنگل بري jangal-burī, s. f. Act of clearing woodlands. جنگل پهرنا يا جانا jangal- phirnā, or -jānā (lit. To walk in or go to the wood) v. n. To ease oneʼs self.

جوهر jauhar A (from Pers. گوهر) s. m. f. 1. A gem, jewel, pearl. 2. Skill, knowledge. 3. Matter, substance, essence (distinguished from accident). 4. Virtue, worth, merit. 5. Blackish marks in the steel of well tempered scimitars. 6. adj. Bright, glittering. جوهردار jauhar-dār, A sci- mitar marked with jauhar, q. v. جوهرکرنا jau- har karnā, To kill oneʼs self, to commit suicide. (When the Hindūs are attacked by a force too great for them to resist, they sometimes, in such cases, slaughter or burn their own wives and children, and then take to flight, or are them- selves slain; and, this act of killing their wives, &c. in such extremities, they call jūhar or jau- har).

جهين jhīn S̱. (perhaps, for क्षीण) adj. Fine, subtile, thin.

جهوک jhok H s. f. A jolt, a puff or gust.

جٿت जटित jaṭit S adj. Clotted, matted, set (with jewels, &c.); s. f. Set work of jewels, &c.

جيت jait S̱. or jet (जयन्ती) s. m. 1. Name of a plant. (Ӕschynomene sesban). 2. Name of a musical mode.

جد jidd A s. m. Trial, endeavour, effort, study. جدوجـﮩد کرنا jidd-o-jahd karnā, To endeavour,

جنان jinān A s. plur. (of جنت jannat, Heb. ) Gardens, paradise.
