جهن jhan H s. m. The sound of platters or of any vessels of metal striking against one ano- ther, clash of arms (as, of swords, &c.).

جم jam S (यम) s. m. The regent of worlds below; or death, and judge of departed souls. جم دوت यमदूत jam-dūt, Messenger of Jam or of death. جم ديا jam-diyā (यमदीप) s. m. A candle or illumination sacred to Jam, lighted on the 13th of kārtik, kr̤ishṇ paksh̤, i. e. three days before the dewālī.

جيٿهاني jeṭh-ānī S̱. (from ज्येष्ठ) s. f. The wife of a husbandʼs elder brother.

جکهـ jakh यक्ष S̱. s. m. A demi-god, attendant especially on Kuvera, and employed in the care of his gardens and treasures. See جک.

جهيکنا jhīknā H v. n. To grieve, to lament, to think of any thing with sorrow, to recommend any thing seriously.

جادو jādū P s. m. Enchantment, incantation, conjuring, juggling. جادوچلانا jādū-chalānā or جادوکرنا jādū karnā, To practise incantations, to conjure, to charm, enchant. جادوگر jādū-

جنجال janjāl H (corrupt. of جزايل q. v. or per- haps from s. جنجال) s. A swivel, &c.

جهکني jhuknī S̱. s. f. (dakh. i. q. غم خوري) Afflic- tion, grief, sorrow.

جريان jiryān A (more prop. jaryān) s. m. Run- ning, flowing, flux (of blood, urine, &c.). جريان اب jiryān-i-āb, Fluor albus. جريان شکم jiryān- i-shikm, Dysentery, flux. جريان مذي jiryān-i-maẕī, Fluor albus. جريان مني jiryān-i-manī, Gonorrhœa simplex, gleet.
