جير jer H s. The membrane in which the fœtus is enveloped, the afterbirth, secundines.

جواٴي jawāʼī S̱. (properly, جماٴي for जामाता) s. m. A son-in-law.

جهڙن jhaṛan H (from جهڙنا) s. f. 1. The act of falling off (as, of fruit from the tree). 2. Snuff. 3. verb. n. of جهڙنا jhaṛnā, q. v.

جگنو jugnū H s. m. 1. The fire-fly. (Lampyris). 2. A jewel worn about the neck.

جيتيا jītiyā जीवत्पुत्रिका S̱. s. f. Name of a Hindū fast, with sacrifice to and worship of Devī (jītiyā-barat), observed by women, who have lost several children, to preserve the re- mainder.

جمالي jamāl-ī A s. m. A kind of muskmelon (red-fleshed).

جوهنا johnā H v. a. To expect, to look out for.

جهينا jhīnā S̱. (perhaps, for क्षीण) adj. Fine, subtile, thin.

جا jā P s. f. A place. جا بجا jā-ba-jā, adv. Every where. جانشين jā-nishīn, s. m. A lo- cum tenens, a deputy, a successor, a vicegerent. جانشيني jā-nishīn-ī, s. f. Sitting in the place; lieutenancy, succession.

جلي jalī A adj. 1. Plain, apparent. 2. Large, plain (hand writing). فصل جلي faṣl-i-jalī, A season before the commencement of the rains in which a crop of rice is cut.
