پاراين पारायण pārāyaṇ S s. m. The act of reading a Purāṇ continually, without expres- sing its meaning.

پرده parda P s. m. 1. A curtain, a screen, cover, veil; secrecy, privacy, modesty. 2. A mu- sical tone or mode. پرده پرده ديکهنا parda parda dekhnā, To pry or inquire secretly into any matter. پرده پرده کرنا parda parda karnā, To do a thing secretly or privately. پرده پوش parda- posh, Keeping a secret. پرده پوشي parda-posh-ī, The act of concealing a blemish. پرده چهوڙنا pardā chhoṛnā, 1. To let fall a curtain. 2. To lay aside concealment. پرده دار parda-dār, Confidential. پرده در parda-dar, A betrayer of secrets. پرده دري parda-dar-ī, The betraying of secrets. پرده رکهنا parda rakhnā, To give ob- scure hints, or to relate a matter in such terms as to be understood by part only of the hearers. پرده فاش parda-fāsh, Betraying secrets. پرده کرنا parda karnā, To conceal. پرده کسي کاپهاڙنا parda kisī kā phāṛnā, or پرده کسي کاکهولنا parda kisī kā kholnā, To reveal the faults of another. پرده نشين parda-nishīn, Remaining behind the curtain; modest. پردي مين سوراخ کرنا parde meṅ sūrāḵẖ karnā, Spoken of a woman who secretly indulges licentious practices.

پيار pyār S̱. or piyār (प्रीति) s. m. f. Love, affection, fondness. پيارکرنا pyār karnā, To fondle, caress.

پهپولا phapolā S̱. (स्फोट) s. m. A blister. پهپهولي پهوٿني phaphole phūṭne, v. n. To be blistered; it is used to express the mind being blistered, to be afflicted. پهپهولي دل کي پهوڙني phaphole dil ke phoṛne, To satisfy a revenge that has long been rankling in oneʼs breast.

پڙهن paṛhan पठन S̱. s. f. The act of reading.

پنچکي panchakkī S̱. (from पानीय Water, and चक्र A wheel, a mill) s. f. A watermill. S. H. پنچلڙا panch-laṛ-ā, adj. Of five rows or strings (a necklace, &c.). S. H. پنچلڙي panch-laṛ-ī, s. f. A necklace of five rows or strings.

پلانا pilānā S̱. (caus. of پينا) v. a. To give or cause to drink.

پرادهين पराधीन par-ādhīn S adj. Dependent, humble, under another.

پرميه prameh S (प्रमेह) s. m. A gonorrhœa, a (venereal) clap, a gleet.

پيوڙي peʼoṛī H s. f. A kind of yellow colour (said to be obtained from the urine of a cow, fed on the flowers of Butea frondosa, or, ac- cording to others, on the leaves of the mango tree). S. پيوس पीयूष or पेयूष pīyūs or peyūs, s. m. The milk of a cow for some days after calving, biestings.
