پنجه panja P s. m. 1. A hand with the five fingers extended, claw, clutch, paw, grasp. 2. A sort of link or torch resembling the five fin- gers, which is also called پنج شاخه panj-shāḵẖa. 3. A hand made of ivory, &c. to scratch the back with. پنجه پهيرنا panja phernā, To over- come, to overpower. پنجه کرنا panja karnā, A kind of wrestling, wherein the antagonists lock their fingers together. پنجه کش panja- kash, 1. s. m. An iron instrument resembling a hand, with which wrestlers exercise themselves by locking their fingers into those of the instru- ment. 2. (A kind of bread) bearing the marks of five fingers.

پهاند phānd S̱. (see پهاندنا) s. m. 1. A noose, snare, net. 2. (met.) Perplexity, difficulty.

پرده parda P s. m. 1. A curtain, a screen, cover, veil; secrecy, privacy, modesty. 2. A mu- sical tone or mode. پرده پرده ديکهنا parda parda dekhnā, To pry or inquire secretly into any matter. پرده پرده کرنا parda parda karnā, To do a thing secretly or privately. پرده پوش parda- posh, Keeping a secret. پرده پوشي parda-posh-ī, The act of concealing a blemish. پرده چهوڙنا pardā chhoṛnā, 1. To let fall a curtain. 2. To lay aside concealment. پرده دار parda-dār, Confidential. پرده در parda-dar, A betrayer of secrets. پرده دري parda-dar-ī, The betraying of secrets. پرده رکهنا parda rakhnā, To give ob- scure hints, or to relate a matter in such terms as to be understood by part only of the hearers. پرده فاش parda-fāsh, Betraying secrets. پرده کرنا parda karnā, To conceal. پرده کسي کاپهاڙنا parda kisī kā phāṛnā, or پرده کسي کاکهولنا parda kisī kā kholnā, To reveal the faults of another. پرده نشين parda-nishīn, Remaining behind the curtain; modest. پردي مين سوراخ کرنا parde meṅ sūrāḵẖ karnā, Spoken of a woman who secretly indulges licentious practices.

پينگ peng H 1. s. f. The exertion made by people in a swing, when two persons keep the swing in motion without assistance from by- standers. 2. s. m. The name of a bird (Gra- cula chattareah: Buch.).

پرانا pirānā S̱. (पीडन r. पीड Give pain) v. n. To have pain, be painful, pain, ache, ake.

پرپرانا parparānā H v. n. To smart.

پوکهر pokhar पुष्कर S̱. s. m. A pond, a lake.

پي pī S̱. or piya (प्रिय) 1. adj. Beloved. 2. s. m. A lover, a sweetheart, a husband.

پهراٿا pharrāṭā S̱. (r. स्फुर Start, throb) s. m. 1. A piece of bamboo. 2. A sound made by the flying of a flag or the breathing of a horse.
