پاتال पाताल pātāl S s. m. Regions, according to the Hindūs, under the earth or towards the south-pole, inhabited by a serpentine race; in- fernal regions; hell.

پونگي pūngī H s. f. 1. Flute, pipe. 2. A kind of pipe played upon by jugglers.

پهس phus H s. (dakh.) Sound, &c. see آواز āwāz.

پنچورا panchorā H s. m. An earthen vessel with a narrow neck and a hole in the bottom. When filled with water and the mouth stopped, no water flows from the hole below till the hand or whatever stopped the mouth be removed. (It is used as an experiment to illustrate the doc- trine of the horror vacui by the followers of Aristotle).

پتري पुत्री putrī S s. f. A daughter. ¶ patrī (from पत्र) s. f. A letter, note, epistle.

پروانگي parwāna-gī P (from پروانه) s. f. Command, order, permission.

پٿيلا paṭelā H or paṭailā, s. m. 1. A kind of boat, flat-bottomed. 2. A log or beam used to roll or harrow ground.

پاٿهک पाठक pāṭhak S s. m. 1. He that gives lessons, a teacher, a professor. 2. A title of Brāhmaṇs.

پيسنا pīsnā पेषण S̱. 1. v. a. To grind, to tritu- rate, to bruise, to powder; to gnash (the teeth). 2. s. m. The corn or grain for grinding.
