ببول babūl S̱. (वर्वुर) s. f. The name of a tree of the Mimosa kind. (There are several species, but the commonest is Arabica. Roxb.) The acacia tree.

برد burd H s. f. A term used at chess when the king only, on one side, remains on the board; (hence, also) an opportunity of making some acquisition.

بيسواڙا bais-wāṛā S̱. s. m. The residence of Bais, the nativity of Bais.

بيجنتي مالا baijantī-mālā S̱. (वैजयंती see بيجنتي and माला Necklace) s. f. A necklace especially worn by Vish̤ṇu in his several forms, and com- posed of the following jewels, produced from the five elements of nature: namely, the sapphire, from the earth; the pearl, from water; the ruby, from fire; the topaz, from air; and, the dia- mond, from space or ether.

بهرني भरणी bharaṇī S s. f. The name of the se- cond lunar mansion. (Three stars in Musca).

بيت bait A (Heb. ) s. f. 1. A house, temple, edifice. 2. A couplet, distich, verse (in poetry). بيت بحشي bait-baḥs̤-ī, s. f. Criticism of poetry. بيت بندي bait-band-ī, s. f. Poetry, verse.

باريکي bārīk-ī P s. f. Subtilty, minuteness, fineness, niceness.

باڐه bāḍh H s. f. Stubble.

باطل bāt̤il A (from بطل) adj. False, vain, absurd, futile, ineffectual, ignorant, abolished. باطل السحر bāt̤ilu-s-siḥr, Annuller of enchantment, what or who frustrates incantation.

بلند buland P adj. High, elevated, lofty, exalted, sublime, tall, loud. بلندپايه buland-pāya, adj. Of high rank. بلندحوصله buland-ḥauṣila, adj. Ambitious, aspiring. بلندرتبه يامرتبه buland- rutba or -martaba, High in rank or dignity. بلندکرنا buland karnā, To lift, elevate, raise up. بلندهونا buland honā, To mount, rise up, be- come high, ascend. بلندنظر buland-naz̤ar, adj. Aspiring. بلندهمت buland-himmat, adj. Am- bitious, high-minded. بلندهمتي buland-him- mat-ī, s. f. High-mindedness, ambition.
