وقف waḳf A s. m. 1. Standing, stopping, under- standing. 2. Tranquillity, firmness, constancy, permanency. 3. A legacy for pious uses, an endowment or dedication or foundation for pub- lick charity. وقف خم چوگان waḳf-i-ḵẖam-i-chaugān, Implies very humbly devoted. وقف کرنا waḳf karnā, To dedicate to pious uses.

واڙگون wāzhgūṅ P adj. Inverted, preposterous, contrary.

وسالت wasālat A (from وسل) s. f. Mediation, channel, medium, means.

وعيد waʼīﻌd A (from وعد) s. 1. Threatening, or predicting any thing bad, threat, denunciation. 2. Promising any thing good.

وهب wahb A (Heb. and Aram. ) s. m. Giving, bestowing.

وعظ waﻌz̤ A (Heb. and Aram. ) s. m. Advice, admonition, exhortation; sermon.

واحد wāḥid A (part. act. of وحد Heb. ) adj. One, sole, individual, single, singular. واحد شاهد wāḥid shāhid, 1. God is my witness. 2. (met.) Giving, bestowing.

وتا watā H adj. (dakh.) That much, so much, so many.

وعده waﻌda A (from وعد Heb. and Aram. ) s. m. A promise, vow, agreement, bargain, assigna- tion, appointment. وعده خلاف waﻌda-ḵẖilāf, 1. A false contract. 2. A person who does not keep his promise. وعده خلافي waﻌda-ḵẖilāf-ī, s. f. Breach of promise. وعده شکن waﻌda- shikan, A promisebreaker. وعده فراموش waﻌda- farāmosh, Forgetful of oneʼs promise. وعده کرنا waﻌda karnā, To promise, to appoint, make an appointment, &c., make a bargain. وعده گاه waﻌda-gāh, Place of assignation or appoint- ment. وعده وعيد waﻌda-waʼīﻌd, Evading a pro- mise. وعده وفا waﻌda-wafā, Observing oneʼs promise, punctual, true to oneʼs word.
