نيلکنٿهہ नीलकंठ nīl-kanṭh S s. m. 1. Name of a bird. (Coracias bengalensis). 2. A name of Mahādeva. (He is called by this name because his throat was stained blue by swallowing the poison produced by over-churning the ocean, with the mountain Mandara, by the Surs and Asurs, to procure the amr̤ita). 3. A peacock. 4. Name of a plant. (Hyperanthera mo- runga).

ناگ नाग nāg S s. m. 1. A snake (Coluber naja) and a sort of demigod shaped as a ser- pent. ناگ بهاشا nāg-bhāsh̤ā, A Prākr̤it lan- guage said to be used by the serpentine race who inhabit Pātāl. ناگ پنچمي nāg-pancha- mī, Name of a Hindū holyday, the 5th of Srāwaṇ, sukl-paksh̤, on which day they worship a snake to procure blessings on their children. ناگ پاس (नागपाश) nāg-pās, or ناگ پهانس nāg-phāṅs, s. f. نيل من nīl-maṇi S (नीलमणि) s. m. A gem of a blue colour, a sapphire.

نيلا nīlā नील P. S̱. adj. Blue, dark blue or black. نيلا پيلا nīlā pīlā (lit. blue and yellow) Black and blue. نيلا تهوتها nīlā thothā, Blue vitriol.

نليا nal-iyā S̱. s. m. Name of a cast, whose em- ployment is to catch birds with quicklime by means of the نل nal, q. v.
