ناگ नाग nāg S s. m. 1. A snake (Coluber naja) and a sort of demigod shaped as a ser- pent. ناگ بهاشا nāg-bhāsh̤ā, A Prākr̤it lan- guage said to be used by the serpentine race who inhabit Pātāl. ناگ پنچمي nāg-pancha- mī, Name of a Hindū holyday, the 5th of Srāwaṇ, sukl-paksh̤, on which day they worship a snake to procure blessings on their children. ناگ پاس (नागपाश) nāg-pās, or ناگ پهانس nāg-phāṅs, s. f. ننگ nang P s. m. 1. Honour, reputation, es- teem. 2. (on the contrary) Disgrace, infamy. ننگ وناموس nang-o-nāmūs, Honour, shame, disgrace.
