نوش nosh P 1. part. act. (from نوشيدن) in compos. A drinker; as, باده نوش bāda-nosh, A wine-drinker. 2. s. m. A drink, a draught (especially, of something sweet and pleasant). 3. A present. 4. A reward. 5. An antidote. نوش جان فرمانا nosh-i-jān farmānā or نوش فرمانا nosh farmānā or نوش جان کرنا nosh-i-jān karnā, To eat, to drink (applied to a king or nobleman). نوش کرنا nosh karnā, To drink, to eat, to devour, to swallow, to sup, to sip.

نوم naum A (Heb. and Aram. ) s. f. Sleep.

نارا nārā H s. m. 1. Red thread. 2. (dakh.) The tape or band for the trousers.

نيبو nībū S̱. (निम्बु or निम्बूक) s. Name of a tree, a lime. (Citrus medica). See ليمو līmū.

ندرت nudrat A (from ندر) s. f. Oddness, sin- gularity, rareness.

نقا naḳā A (from نقي Heb. and Chald. ) 1. s. f. Purity, cleanness. 2. adj. Pure, clean. 3. Good, virtuous, exquisite.

ناسک nāsik A part. act. (of نسک Heb. and Aram. ) Devoted to God.

نيپر nepur नूपुर S̱. s. f. An ornament for the toes and feet or worn on the ankles. See نوپر.

ن nūn The twenty-fifth letter of the Arabic and twenty-ninth of the Persian alphabet, corre- sponds to न in Sanskrit. It is one of the dental letters, and has the sound of the English n, with the following exceptions. 1. When it is quiescent in the middle or end of a word, and follows a madda or simple long vowel, it has a very slight nasal sound; as, in زبون Bad, زمان Time, زمين The earth, ماندن To remain: this is called نون غنب nūn-i-g̠ẖunna. If, how- ever, the word at the end of which it occurs be so placed in composition that the ن become moveable by iẓāfat, it ceases to be nasal and resumes its original sound as a dental letter. 2. When it precedes ب or پ it has the sound of m; as, in منبر mimbar, A pulpit; سنپت

ناگن nāgin S̱. or nāgan, (नागिनी) s. f. A serpent (female).
