نفاط nafāt̤ A (from نفط) s. m. 1. Naphtha, bitu- men, or a place where it is found in plenty. 2. Lamp-oil.

نکات nikāt A s. plur. of نکته nukta, q. v.

نصيب naṣīb A (from نصب Heb. and Aram. ) s. m. Fortune, lot, luck, chance, portion, part, fate, destiny. (In Hindūstānī this word is often constructed as a plural). نصيب لڙني na- ṣīb laṛne, 1. To be competitor for any thing. 2. (lit. fortune fighting for one) The commence- ment of prosperity, to be greatly favoured by fortune (after adversity). نصيب جگنا naṣīb jagnā, To be fortunate.

نايک नायक nāyak S s. m. 1. A chief, a leader, a man, a youth. 2. A native officer of the lowest rank, corresponding to corporal in our corps. 3. A person well conversant in dancing, singing, &c.

نوڙهانا nauṛhānā S̱. v. a. To bow, to bend.

نصب naṣb A (Heb. and Aram. ) s. m. Fixing, erecting, planting, an establishment. نصب کرنا naṣb karnā, To establish, fix, erect, &c. نصب هونا naṣb honā, To be fixed, &c.

نديم nadīm A (from ندم) s. m. A companion, intimate friend; courtier.

نيا nayā नव S̱. adj. New. نئيي سرسي naye sir se, adj. Anew, afresh. ¶ naiyā (from नौ ناو A boat) s. m. A boatman, ferryman.

نبندهـ निबंध nibandh S adj. Affixed, ascer- tained.

نباڙا nibāṛā S̱. s. m. (dakh. i. q. گذاره) Passage, passing.
