لحظ laḥz̤ A s. f. Looking askew or by the corner of the eye.

ل lām the twenty-third letter of the Arabic, and twenty-seventh of the Persian alphabet, corres- ponds to ल in Sanskrit. It is one of the eight dental letters in Arabic, and its sound is that of the English l. In the denotation of numbers by the letters of the Arabic alphabet, it stands for 30: and, by way of abbreviation, it may repre- sent the month شوال. Its permutations are, 1. In Persian and Hindūstānī into ر and vice versa; as, زرو zarū for زلو zalū, A leech; بار for بال Hair; ديوال for ديوار A wall; تلوار for تروار A sword. 2. In Arabic, in

لوازم lawāzim A or لوازمه lawāzima, s. m. plur. (of لازم) Necessary things, what is indispensa- ble, requisites, appurtenances, accommodation, baggage.

لٿها laṭhā S̱. (Sans. यष्टि) s. m. A beam.

لوٴي loʼī S̱. s. f. 1. (लोमीय) Blanket, flannel. 2. Splendour of the countenance, honour. ¶ lūʼī (लोप्त्री) s. f. A round lump of dough prepared for making into bread or cakes.

لوهار lauhār H s. m. A trance.

لاغري lāg̠ẖar-ī P s. f. Leanness, meagreness.

ليسنا lesnā H (perhaps, for s̱. ليپنا lepnā) v. a. 1. To plaster, to spread, to daub. 2. To kindle. 3. To foment (a quarrel).

لهوا lhauwā S̱. s. m. (dakh.) Iron: see لوها lohā. لهوا چابنا lhauwā-chābnā (dakh. i. q. دليري کرنا) To act bravely or boldly.
