اپاڙنا upāṛnā S̱. (उत्पाटन from उत् and r. पट Go) v. a. To root up, to extirpate, to eradicate. S̱. اپاس (contract. of اپواس उपवास q. v.) upās, s. m. A fast, fasting.

اپج upaj H s. f. Any thing spoken or sung ex- tempore, chorus, variations in musick.

آئين āʼīn P s. m. Regulation, institute, statute, rules, common law (the laws delivered by Mu- hammad being called شرع sharﻌ, and those established by princes, آئين ā-īn), custom, manner.

اندري indrī इंद्रिय S̱. s. f. An organ of sense, the organs of action and perception (the Hindūs reckoning those of action to be the hand, the foot, the voice, the organ of generation, and the organ of excretion, and those of perception to be the mind, the eye, the ear, the nose, the tongue, and the skin); the privities, membrum virile, vere- trum animalium. اندري جلاب indrī-jullāb, A diuretick medicine.

اشجار ashjār A s. plur. (of شجر) Trees.

اسفہان isfahān P n. prop. Ispahān, the capital of Persian عراق iﻌrāḳ (the ancient Parthia).

آمی आमय āmaya S s. m. Sickness, disease.

اعمال aﻌmāl A s. m. plur. (of عمل) Actions, &c.

آيده आयुध āyudh S s. m. Weapon (in general).

اسمین a-samaiṅ S̱. adv. Out of season. S. آسن आसन (r. आस Sit) āsan, s. m. 1. A stool, a seat, a small carpet on which the Hindūs sit at prayer, a carpet to sit on. 2. Stay, abiding, posture, attitude, sitting (espe- cially, the attitudes adopted by jogīs in their devotional exercises, of which they enumerate eighty-four). 3. The inside or under part of the thigh. 4. The withers of an elephant, the part where the driver sits. آسن تلي آنا āsan tale ānā, To come under subjection. آسن حوڙنا āsan joṛnā, To sit on the hams. آسن ڐولنا āsan ḍolnā, Spoken of a holy man, who perceiving by supernatural intelligence that some one in distress has called on him, interposes in his behalf. آسن سي آسن جوڙنا āsan se āsan joṛnā, To sit close in contact with another person. آسن لگانا āsan lagānā, To sit obstinately in a given posture till oneʼs request be obtained. آسن مارنا
