الایچي ilāʼechī S̱. s. f. Cardamums. See الاچي.

آرتا ārtā आरात्रिक S̱. s. m. A ceremony attending marriage. When the bridegroom first comes to the house of the bride, he is received by her relations, who present to him, and move circularly round his head, a platter painted and divided into several compartments; in the middle of which is a lamp made of flour, filled with ghī and having several wicks lighted.

ادهیلي adh-elī S̱. s. f. Half a rupee or gold mohur.

الول alol S̱. 1. (for आ and लोल Shaking, moving) s. f. Gambol (generally applied to a horse). 2. (for अ and लोल) adj. Steady.

آسن āsin आश्विन S̱. s. m. The sixth Hindū month, in which the moon is full near the stars in the head of Aries. September--October. S. آسن (असन or) आसन āsan, s. m. The name of a tree on which the tasar silk-worm feeds. (Terminalia alata tomentosa). S. اسن अशन (r. अश Eat) asan, s. m. Eating, food: also, the tree last described.

اوصاف auṣāf A s. plur. (of وصف) Praises, qua- lities, endowments, descriptions. اوصاف حميده auṣāf-i-ḥamīda, adj. Praiseworthy qualifica- tions, noble properties.

ايکادسي एकादशी ekādas-ī S s. f. The eleventh day of the lunar fortnight.

اٿکل aṭkal H s. f. Guess, conjecture, judgment, opinion, quantity, size. اٿکل باز aṭkal-bāz, adj. Adroit at guessing; an appraiser.

اجماع ijmāﻌ A (inf. iv of جمع) s. m. Act of as- sembling, an assembly, senate, council, court of justice, a crowd, collection, amount, whole. اجماع امت ijmāﻌ-i-ummat, s. m. General as- sembly of the people, unanimous consent.

استبرا istibrā A (inf. x. of برأ) s. m. 1. Cleansing, washing oneʼs hands of a business or desiring to be freed from it. 2. The waiting of a woman after being divorced from her husband, to as certain whether she is pregnant or not, before she can contract another marriage. (The term is three months, according to the Muhammadan law).
