امام imām A s. m. 1. A leader in religious af- fairs, a prelate, patriarch, priest, chief. 2. A large bead in a rosary, which remains fixed in the hand and is not turned over in counting (called by the Hindūs sumeru).

آکهیٿ आखेट ā-kheṭ S s. m. The chase, hunting.

اولکه olka T or ūlka, s. m. Territory, dominion.

اشگون a-shagūn S̱. s. m. Bad omen, portent.

اخیر aḵẖīr A adj. Last, final, latter. s. m. The end, accomplishment, completion.

آسني āsanī S̱. s. f. A small carpet, &c. on which Hindūs sit at prayer. See آسن आसन.

استعاره istiāﻌra A (inf. x. of عاریت) s. m. Bor- rowing; using a word metaphorically; a me- taphor. استعاره کرنا istiāﻌra karnā, To beseech, to beg earnestly.

ابناس a-binās S̱. (अ and विनाश Annihilation) s. m. Exemption from loss, safety.

ارواح arwāḥ A s. plur. (of روح) Spirits, souls.

احدي aḥd-ī P s. m. A sort of soldier.
