قتيل ḳatīl A part. (of قتل) Killed, murdered. A. P. قحبگي ḳaḥba-gī (comp. of قحبه and Pers. particle گي) s. f. Whoredom, fornication.

قانون ḳānūn G. (Gr. kanwn) s. m. 1. Rule, regula- tion, statute, canon, institute, system. 2. A dulcimer, or harp. قانونگو ḳānūn-go, s. m. An officer in each district, acquainted with its cus- toms, the nature of the tenures of the land, &c. قانونگوٴي ḳānūn-go-ī, s. f. The office of a ḳā- nūn-go, q. v.

قرباني ḳurbān-ī A. 1. adj. Devoted, sacrificed. 2. s. See قربان ḳurbān.

قا فيه ḳāfiya A (from قفا To follow) s. m. Rhyme, cadence, metre, the last letter in a verse, to which all the other distichs rhyme. (In poems which terminate in a double rhyme, the penult syllable is ḳāfiya, the last being called radīf). قافيه تنگ هونا ḳāfiya tang honā, To be very poor or distressed.

قيصر ḳaiṣar L. (Lat. Cæsar. Gr. *kaisar) s. m. Cæsar, an emperour. The general name for the Greek or Turkish emperour.

قايد ḳāʼịd A (part. act. of قود) s. m. 1. A leader, a general. 2. The star in the tail of the lesser bear.

قرار ḳarār A (from قرّ Heb. To rest, to cool) s. m. 1. Rest, residence, tranquillity, quietness. 2. Firmness, stability. 3. Ratification, agree- ment, engagement. 4. Waiting, patience. قرار داد ḳarār-dād, An engagement, contract, agree- ment. قراردينا ḳarār denā, To fix, to establish. قرارواقعي ḳarār-wāḳiʼīﻌ, adv. Effectively, effec- tually, efficaciously, truly.

قرن ḳarn A (from قرن ḳarana, To join) s. m. 1. Conjunction of the planets. 2. A period of (40, 10, 20, 30, 50, 60, 70, 80, 100, or 120) years. (Ḳām.).

قورچي ḳor-chī A.P. s. m. A keeper of a ward- robe.

قبل ḳabl A (Heb. and Chald. ) 1. s. m. The anteriour part, the front. 2. adj. First. 3. adv. Before. قبل ازين ḳabl az-īn, Before this, heretofore. ¶ ḳibal, 1. Power. 2. Plenty.
