قل ḳul A s. m. Reading of the sūra or chapter of the ḳurʼān, entitled ḳul huwa-l-lāh; which is done, by way of benediction, over fruits and sweetmeats presented to the guests, at the conclusion of the religious annual feasts, held in commemoration of ancestors and other relations. Hence, it comes to signify conclusion. قل هو چکا ḳul ho chukā, It is all over. قل هوالله پڙهنا ḳul huwa-l-lāh paṛhnā, To grumble (the bowels), to be hungry. (See under انتڙي).

قـﮩقه ḳahḳah P s. A loud laugh, horselaugh. قـﮩقه مارنا ḳahḳah-mārnā, To laugh out aloud.

قران ḳirān A (from قرن) s. m. 1. Conjunction of

قنوج ḳannauj S̱. or ḳinnauj (कन्याकुज or कान्यकुज) Name of a celebrated city of In- dia, written by Europeans Canoge, or Kanouje, or Kinnoge.

قحبه ḳaḥba A (from قحب To cough) 1. s. m. A cough. 2. An old woman (subject to coughing). 3. (the usual acceptation in Hindī) s. f. A whore, a prostitute (accustomed to notify her profession by coughing: Gol.). 4. adj. f. Unchaste.

قبله ḳibla A s. m. 1. Any thing opposite. 2. That part to which people turn their face when at prayer; (hence, the word means) Mecca, an altar, temple; (and, by way of respectful address) Worship! Father! &c. قبلهٴحاجات ḳibla-i-ḥājāt, What is looked to for the attain- ment of necessities or desires. قبلهٴعالم ḳibla-e-āﻌlam, The ḳibla of the world, his Majesty, your Majesty! قبله کونين ḳibla-e-kaunain, The ḳibla of both worlds, applied to a father. قبله گاه ḳibla-gāh, The place turned to when at prayer, generally means a father or one beloved. قبله نما ḳibla-numā (lit. shewing the ḳibla or di- rection of Mecca) A marinerʼs compass, an in- strument to ascertain the direction of Mecca.

قوميت ḳaum-īyat A. s. f. Connexion, being of the same tribe, &c.

قسم ḳism A s. f. 1. Kind, species, sort. 2. Part, division. ¶ ḳasam, s. f. An oath. قسم دلانا ḳasam dilānā, To administer an oath. قسم دينا ḳasam denā, To adjure. قسم کهـانا ḳasam khānā. To take an oath, to swear. ¶ ḳasm, s. Di- viding, parting.
