فحوا faḥwā A s. m. Style, contents, signification, sense, drift, tenour, meaning. (Plur. فحاوي faḥāwī). فحواي کلام faḥwā-e-kalām, Significa- tion, sense, scope, meaning, spirit, contents, drift, tenour of the speech or discourse.

فرغول farg̠ẖūl P s. f. A wrapper, a great coat, cloak. (Hunter.)

فلفل filfil A (from Sans. पिप्पली) s. f. Pepper.

فرايض farāʼịẓ A s. plur. (of فريضه from فرض To cut, Heb. To divide, to break) The know- ledge of dividing inheritances agreeably to law.

فرسوده farsūda P part. pass. (of فرسودن) Worn, torn, spoiled by age, obliterated.

فايز fāʼịz A part. act. (of فوز) Overtaking, reaching, obtaining.

فراق firāḳ A (from فرق Heb. To break, to separate) s. m. Separation, absence, departing, distance, distinction. فراق زده firāḳ-zada, adj. Absent, separated. A. P. فراقي firāḳ-ī, adj. Of separation, (one) se- parated (from friends or the beloved).

فرشي farshī A. s. f. A kind of ḥuḳḳa.

فام fām P joined to nouns denoting colour, im- plies a tendency to such colour or being of such colour; as, سيه فام siyah-fām, Blackish. لعل فام laﻌl-fām, Ruby-coloured.

فلک falak A (Heb. Any thing round) s. m. 1. The heavens, sky, firmament, sphere. 2. Fate, fortune. (Plur. افلاک aflāk). فلک زده falak-zada, Stricken of fate, poor, crazy, lu- natick. فلک کو خبر نـﮩوني کسيکي falak ko ḵẖa- bar na honī kisī ke (lit. A thing being unknown to oneʼs stars) implies great inattention and ig- norance. Mīr Aﻌbdullāh Tajarrud says:-- تجهـ رو مين لطف هي سو ملک کو خبر نـﮩين خورشيد کيا هي اسکي فلک کو خبر نـﮩين Tujh rū meṅ lut̤f hai so malak ko ḵẖabar nahīṅ; ḵẖụrshaid kyā hai? uske falak ko ḵẖabar nahīṅ, There is a charm in thy face unknown even to angels; (compared to it) what is the sun? It is unknown to his orbit or sphere. فلک الافلاک falaku-l-aflāk, The primum mobile, empyrean heaven. فلک سير falak-sair, Like the heavens in motion, rapid in motion. فلک نشان falak- nishān, Like the heavens, high or vast as the heavens.
