عقل aﻌḳl A s. f. Wisdom, opinion, sense, under- standing, intellect, reason. عقل تهـجنا aﻌḳl thij- nā (dakh. i. q. دنگ هونا) To be astonished (?). عقل خرچنا aﻌḳl ḵẖarachna (dakh) i. q. داناٴي کرنا dānā-ī karnā. عقل دوڙانا aﻌḳl dauṛānā, To consider, think, to reason.

عالم āﻌlim A part. pres. (of علم) Learned, knowing. عالم غيب āﻌlim-i-g̠ẖaib, adj. Prescient, knowing what is concealed, or the past and future.

عدد aﻌdad A s. m. Number. عدد مطلق aﻌdad mut̤laḳ or عدد ذاتي aﻌdad ẕātī, Cardinal number. عدد وصفي aﻌdad waṣfī, Ordinal number.

عشق iﻌshḳ A s. m. Love. عشقباز iﻌshḳ-bāz, A gallant, amorous. عشقبازي iﻌshḳ-bāz-ī, s. f. Gal- lantry, amour, amorousness. عشق پيچا iﻌshḳ- pechā, s. m. The name of a flower (Ipomœa quamoclit) American jasmine. عشق پيشه iﻌshḳ- pesha, Love-practiser, lover. عشق هي iﻌshḳ hai, an exclamation of praise; excellent! well done! praise to! Mīr says:-- عشق انکي عقل کو هي جو ما سواهماري ناچيز جانتي هين نابود جانتي هين iﻌshḳ unkī aﻌḳl ko hai, jo mā siwā hamāre nāchīz jānte haiṅ, nābūd jānte haiṅ, Excellent is their understanding who esteem every thing besides me worthless and null.

علامه aﻌllāma A adj. (superl. of علم) Very wise or learned. ¶ aﻌlāma, s. m. Mark, sign, flag, standard.
